RISE N CONNECT, Rising star’s first event, is to be hosted this September 18th. The event gives Montreal’s artists an opportunity to network, all while enjoying food, DJs, clothing giveaways and much more.
Rising Star partnered with hip hop artist OYABUN’s event label Communitymtl to organize the event. The gathering will be catered by Jennifer Barrak’s Masterpiece Kitchen and sponsored by hip hop artist Nate Husser’s clothing brand Pour Tout Le Monde, the art brand: GRIMEY and Atelier New Regime clothing brand, which will have an orange themed give away.
The event will run from 4pm until 9 pm, and will be hosted by hip hop artist SLM. DJ Kidcrayola will be entertaining the crowd with her vibe-creating skills.
GRIMEY Brand
Rising star’s founders: Jeffrey Baret, Jordan Karab and Nicolas Kara, along with Communitymtl’s OYABUN, are the event’s head organizers. Karab has been with Rising star for over a year and has made a place for himself in the music and art industry by managing artists, directing videos, and producing.
“We [Rising Star, are] working on going towards the more educational and entrainment side of things. […] Not only [do we want to] promote artists, but promote their knowledge and [the] educational side of the artist’s world. […] We want to shed light on emerging artists, not only locally but around the world. We feel that there is a lot of hidden gems out there, that people […] are not aware of.” (Karab).
Atelier New Regime
Communitymtl is an event label created by OYABUN, a hiphop artist from New York, residing in Montreal. “[OYABUN] wanted to be more than an artist, and give back to the community” (OYABUN). So he created Communitymtl as an outlet. He’s working with Rising Star to make RISE N CONNECT possible.
“If I had the opportunity to do something, I feel like I should. […] I live here, I have family here, so for me I can’t expect the environment to be what I would want it to be if I’m not contributing to it in a way” (OYABUN).
“I’ve thrown events and parties in the past, for entertainment, for-profit, and as I’m getting older, I just want to do something that has more purpose[…] [In] these events, we’re not selling any tickets, […]. We want people to just come out [and] have a good time. A lot of people had cabin fever from just being in lockdown […]. I think if we keep people in captivity for so long, it’s a healthy thing for them to want to become social. […] That’s where the whole idea of Communitymtl came about.”
OYABUN wants to create a fun environment for people. He’s brought a lot of creative ideas with him to Montreal, like having clothing brands sponsor events, or throwing parties to have money donated to a cause. “Not everything has to be self-servicing. It doesn’t have to be fully for-profit” (OYABUN).
Masterpiece Kitchen
Catering will be covered by Jennifer Barrak, owner of Masterpiece Training Center and Masterpiece Kitchen. She’ll be giving out healthy food for everybody who comes to the event.
“Eating cleaner and healthier will [let you] be able to do what [you] love for longer in [your] life, and […] [it helps increase] energy levels. What we fuel our body [with] will give us the energy to do everything we do every day” (Barrak).
Her menu includes; mini burger sliders in lettuce wraps, bocconcini sticks, cups of hummus and veggies, chicken sticks with vegan tzatziki, grilled veggie sticks, bruschetta and bread.
The event will be hosted in an open outdoor location in Laval, Quebec.
Pour Tout Le Monde Clothing Brand
“RISE N CONNECT is about networking and connecting, [it will] not [be] a one-time thing, [we will] keep it consistent. [Rising Star’s] goal is to do [an event] every couple of months with a different theme to it. People, mainly artists from all different domains; musicians, directors, digital artists, painters, producers […] will be invited” (Karab).
Rising Star’s RISE N CONNECT event is all about bringing artists together and creating an environment for them to flourish.
