Jimich’s releasing a new single and music video: “Oscar Heyman”

Jimich, an artist fresh to the scene, is releasing both his new single “Oscar Heyman”, and the song’s accompanying music video this January 14th. Haiti-born and Montreal-based, Jimich is stepping outside his usual go-to genres of trap and drill, and giving Afro beat a try.

“Oscar Heyman” is named after the well-known jewellery brand. The song is based on the women that Jimich knows in his life, who are mostly fearless, independent, beautiful and dangerous in their own ways. The lyrics specifically tell a story about a woman who is cold-blooded, luxurious and rich.

In the music video, this woman plays a hitwoman, who, as the viewer will notice through her glances, has had a history with Jimich. “[In the song] I was just gassing women up”, Jimich said in an online interview from his house in Montreal.

He was inspired to write the song while reading 50 Cent’s book Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter. In the book, he came across a text about independent women that can’t be impressed with money.

“There’s women and you can’t come up to them and be like, I got money because she got money too, you have to come up with something different, so that is pretty much what the [song] is about,” Jimich said.

He writes all his own songs, and hopes for listeners to get to know him. His lyrics are based on his life and feelings. “If I feel like writing, I will write”, he said. “Most of the time, I write about how I’m feeling about a situation or a person, most of the time I try to make real stuff.”

“I don’t really talk about my feelings […]. I don’t really express myself, if I have something on my mind, I hide my feelings. But I always used to go to music to be able to think or whatever. Every time I had something happen to me, I would use music to think and just let it sit. I was like, well, if I like music that much, why don’t I just make my own? That’s how I started” Jimich said.

He mentioned that it’s difficult to put his feelings into words, but he’s working on it. He says the process helps him “evacuate negativity”. The first time he went to the studio to record a song, he wasn’t sure how it would turn out, so he told the studio worker that he just wanted to record a song for his girl. This was also partly true, as she was there at the studio to support and listen. When Jimich heard how his first song recording turned out and liked it, he decided to continue with his original dream idea, and continue making music. He didn’t, however, release his first recorded song, “Talk to me”. He’s devoted to making quality music. Jimich only started with his music career this past March 2021 and has been working hard, releasing singles since then. He hopes his listeners can get to know him through his music. F A M E is one of his singles that tells listeners how he grew up, and BAMP is all about how he wants the best for his friends and family. Although he only started seriously writing music in March, he had made beats in high school and was part of a church choir.

The “Oscar Heyman” music video was made by videographer Miguel with his company Two x Frames. Model Katherynn SP acts in the video, playing a role within the detailed storyline, and even giving the video a surprise ending.

Jimich has given the music world so much, especially for an upcoming artist. He already has international listeners and is working on a personal project. He hopes to perform live and reach more people through his music.
