Singer-songwriter Catt McCreary has “unlocked exactly who [she is] as an artist” (McCreary) with her new upbeat single “Good For Me”. She wrote this hit to promote healthy relationships and self-care. Atlanta-born and Nashville-based, McCreary’s “Good for Me” dropped July 30th, and she has much more coming our way.
McCreary wrote “Good For Me” years ago, while studying music business in college. She had loved the song then and knew it was going to be a hit. Now, deeper into her music career, she finally decided to record it. Her main goal is to share confidence and fun through her music. She gets her inspiration from “female rappers because they create an empowerment within their lyrics and production,” said McCreary. She’s currently taking dance lessons, and practices for her live shows.
When she was only 12 years old, McCreary started songwriting, now it’s an essential part of her career. It’s also one of the main reasons why she chose to move from Atlanta to Nashville.
“I am a writer on all of my songs, and I collaborate with other artists as well. My artistry and songwriting really go hand in hand today. It’s one of the most enjoyable parts of the artistry process, for my career and other artists’ careers, that I am fortunate to play a part in the writing process for” (McCreary).
McCreary started her music career at the age of five when she learned to play the piano. From then on, she learned the drums after receiving a drum set for Christmas and taught herself how to play the guitar. Being an instrumentalist with experience in various genres helps McCreary in all aspects of her career, be it songwriting, producing, or performing.
“Whether we’re deciding which instruments to add into a song or each player’s parts for a live show, or even coming up with melodies during a co-write, I feel that my experience has allowed my creativity to flourish in these scenarios […]” (McCreary).
She has experience playing in bands and has practiced in a music school for many years. Between songwriting, singing and playing different instruments, she’s an artist who does it all. During quarantine, as a fun way to interact with her fans, she posted videos of herself playing the piano and singing song lyrics written from her followers’ suggestions.
Some of McCreary’s fans use her music as a support system. Some have reached out to her, thanking her for her music, and claiming it helps them with depression and bullying.
“It makes me extremely happy to know that my music can positively impact others. […] Empowerment and confidence are themes that I genuinely feel are important for everybody, and I center a lot of my songs around these. I want to be a positive support system for my listeners because everyone deserves someone to be there for them and to also love themselves. So if my music can do that in any way, however it helps a listener, then I feel like I’m reaching my main goal”(McCreary).
Currently, her ultimate goals are to tour internationally, hit the Billboard charts, and grow more fans that she can relate to and share her music with. As for now, you can find her music on all streaming platforms, and get updates on new releases through her Instagram or YouTube.
